The story of Cashmere
from Grassland to Store

Our cashmere goats are raised in the Alxa Plateau, located in the semi-desert region of Inner Mongolia, Northwestern China, known for its long days and vast daily and seasonal temperature changes.

The soft downy undercoat of cashmere goats has evolved to survive the area’s long and harsh winters. These undercoats consist of the highest quality lightweight fibers able to retain eight times more warmth than wool.

Collecting

In the spring molting season, the weather begins to warm and local Alashan herders use special coarse combs to separate the cashmere fibers from the goats’ coats or fleece; this step causes no pain or discomfort to the herd.

Every year, herders collect no more than 80 grams of selected cashmere fiber: it would take cashmere fiber harvested from 5-8 goats to produce just one average-sized adult cashmere sweater.

Quality Assurance

After the cashmere is sent to our laboratory, the fibers are tested according to goat type, breeding conditions, whiteness, length, fineness, strength, coarseness and colors. Then the fibers undergo a thorough cleaning process to remove any remaining impurities.

To retain cashmere’s flexible characteristics, we uses ‘natural’ cashmere colors from grass and insects found on the Inner Mongolian prairies. When using auxiliary materials and additives, we use only high-grade green dyeing auxiliaries from Germany.

A self-developed spinning process controls the entire yarn production process. Each year, cashmere yarns are specially produced depending on the designs of the season.
